Restraining & Civil Harassment Orders

Alameda Restraining Order Attorney

A restraining order can be issued against a relative, spouse, or even against a stranger, to protect a person who believes that he or she is being threatened, harassed, and/or endangered. At the Law Offices of Robert A. Goodman, our attorneys assist clients in obtaining or defending against restraining orders. If you feel threatened, we will help you obtain the legal protection of a restraining order.

A restraining order (also called a "protective order") can be permanent or temporary. We will assist you in the preparation and filing of a restraining order. You will be able to obtain a temporary restraining order within 24 hours, effective for 21 days, at which point a hearing will be set for a longer-term restraining order - up to 3 years in duration. If you need a protective order and are located in Contra Costa or Alameda County contact the Law Offices of Robert A. Goodman.

Our restraining order attorneys can assist you with any of the following:

Restraining Order Defense

Many restraining order applications arise out of false accusations. If you have been falsely or unfairly accused of harassment, we can defend you against a restraining order. If a temporary restraining order has been filed against you, you must have an attorney who will aggressively pursue your defense, to protect you against the severe consequences of a long-term restraining order. The consequences of violating a restraining order are very serious: you can sentenced to up to 5 days in jail, be fined up to $1000 dollars for each violation, and you will be prohibited from owning a gun. A restraining order could also impact your child custody rights.

We will assist in defending and filing restraining orders in the Alameda or Contra Costa County Superior Courts.

False accusations of abuse or harassment often arise where there is a custody or child support issue, or immediately before a divorce or separation. Our attorneys are experienced in cases of false accusations and can counsel clients to avoid any situation where someone claims that they have been abused or threatened by the client.
